Make a Real Difference this Christmas- Adopt an Orangutan

At the Vegan Box, we always make sure that every gift we give you is free from palm oil. You may have even seen the cheeky little orangutan on our homepage on our website. We love these beautiful creatures and their lives and home are at stake. This year for Christmas, why not think about giving and supporting a cause that really needs your help?

The alarming rise of deforestation threatens the homes and lives of the beautiful orangutan population that dwell peacefully in these forests over Asia.

The growth of the palm oil industry is a leading culprit in the wide spread destruction of the land and unfortunately, the orangutan population are the greatest victims.

Every hour 300 football fields of precious remaining forest is being ploughed to the ground across South East Asia to make way for palm oil plantations.

Palm oil is used in everything from snack foods to soaps. It is found in over half all packaged items on our supermarket shelves.

In the last 20 years, over 3.5 million hectares of Indonesian and Malaysian forest have been destroyed to make way for palm oil.

Almost 80% of orangutan habitat has disappeared in the last 20 years.

We are losing over 6,000 orangutans a year.

The Orangutan Project is the world’s foremost not-for-profit organization, supporting orangutan conservation, rainforest protection, local community partnerships and the rehabilitation and reintroduction of displaced orangutans back to the wild, in order to save the two orangutan species from extinction.

The organisation provides technical and financial assistance directly to conservation projects and orangutan rescue and rehabilitation centres. Presently there are over 2,000 orphaned orangutans living in care centres in Borneo and Sumatra.

Only 1 out of 6 orphans are lucky enough to be rescued. Care of these infants is costly and requires 24hr staff, veterinary, and nurse care to ensure they are in a healthy condition and have the best chance to survive – and possibly even return to the wild.

This Christmas, why not consider adopting an orangutan. From as little as $65 a year you can make a real difference to one of these beautiful creatures and help these infants survive and return to the wild. 100% of the adoption money goes directly to helping these orphans at care centers. You will receive ongoing feedback and communication with the center about how your orangutan is healing and being supported.
